Salty summer breeze offering little comfort

Warm rays of sunshine caress everything within its vast reach

All is quiet, except for gentle waves lapping against the boat

The occasional seagull cries out in his quest to find dinner

My eyelids are heavy with a lovely, peaceful drowsiness

My book falls to the floor as I give in to slumber…ahhhh

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting #2

Image

I wrote this poem today after gleaning inspiration from this photo I recently took.  Lately, more than ever, I have learned to enjoy the “right nows” in my life.  We are always rushing things, thinking that something in the future is the big thing that will finally right our world or somehow perfect it.  We have to live for now, cherish each moment with our loved ones.  Time is fleeting and we never know what today, much less tomorrow holds.  Be blessed!

Time is fleeting, time is flying, and time is promptly rushing by

While I sit and wait for “moments”, the sun is setting in the sky

Wasting the now, biding my time, as the important event; it draws near

Losing the present, while lost in the future, forsaking the now and the here

Might I live in this moment, embrace this fine hour, presently finding the bliss

Making beautiful memories today, on which I will soon reminisce

If your life was a parade

SONY DSC

If your life was a parade, what banner would you wave?

Would you hold it really high, so all could see as you passed by?

Or would you hide yourself behind, so that no one knew your mind?

Would you lead from the first row or would you follow those you know?

Would you lag behind feeling numb, or would you march to your own drum?

What kind of music would you play?  Joyful?  Bluesy?  A mixed array?

As you passed the people along the way, would you really see them or just look away?

Marching on, towards the end, are you pleased with what awaits, my friend?

The day I became a Nana

Stop and smell the flowers

Stop and smell the flowers

Yesterday I was mom, aunt, daughter

A friend, cousin and wife.

Today I became a Nana

I never could have guessed the way I would feel

You changed my life on February 28th, 2010

The day I became a Nana

Those other grandparents tried to warn me

They spoke of a new and different kind of love

About how hearts turn to mush

But I just didn’t get it

Until the day I became a Nana

Happy 3rd Birthday to my baby girl 🙂

Love until it hurts

Who will tell them they are loved?

All the weary, worn and broken.

Will we merely pass them by?

Words of healing left unspoken.

No, Not I.  I said, “I’ll go.”

And heed their silent cry.

Take my hand and join me.

Let’s touch a life that’s gone awry.

Matthew 25:45 “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’

We all know someone who could use a hug, a smile, some love and if we don’t it’s easy enough to find out.  This is just a reminder to myself and to others to give back, share your heart and whatever else you have to share.   Blessings!

Cookies

Cookies

Cookies

Oven hot and ready

Gooey spoonfuls of sweet, chocolate chip cookie dough

Carefully dropped onto a shiny silver pan

Into the oven they go to rise into sumptuous bites of heaven

The smell of delectable sweetness fills the air as we patiently wait

The quiet is interrupted by a screeching timer

Out they come, piping hot and slightly browned

Finally ready, warm and yummy with a tall glass of cold milk

Question – Does the fact that I’ll write a poem about cookies mean I have serious junk food issues?  haha

Love in the everyday things

Love is when you bring me coffee in the morning without being asked

Love is that look from across the room that no one else shares

Love is catching rain water in a pitcher for me because you know I want to water my house plants with it

Love is always having made sure our children treat me with respect

Love is always kissing goodbye because you don’t take life for granted

Love is telling me to slow down and take a day to rest and relax because I deserve it

Mini vacation on my dock

Freezing in VA, made me miss home, so thought I’d post a little something I wrote the day before I left…

A brown pelican in Key West, Florida. Français...

A pelican flies by, one feathery wing dipped in the cool water, as if checking the temperature

A cool salty breeze tousles my curls and rustles through the palm fronds

The water laps around the dock as it’s carried to and fro by the tide

Puffy, cotton candy clouds drift by in a resplendent blue sky

The hot sun is leaving its kiss anywhere it touches bare flesh

A school of fish chasing their mid-afternoon meal ripple the peaceful water

The mangroves resonate with the songs and calls of the birds enjoying the mild winter

My eyelids grow heavy as I relax and soak it all in, like a massage

Ah, the beauty of a February day in Southwest Florida.

Some things never change

English: Barbie PortraitYesterday, the sweet smell of baby breath and powder

Today, the smell of body spray and perfume

Yesterday, smooth fresh, baby skin

Today, eyelashes curled, and makeup on

Yesterday, Barbie jeep then skateboard

Today, driver’s license and car keys

Yesterday, dolls and puzzles and dreams

Today, heels, dresses and Prom

Yesterday, a soft little hand griping mine ever so tightly

Today, a special boy grips hers just as tight

Yesterday, I loved her with all my heart and knew I would feel that way forever.

Some things never change.

Rise, set and repeat
