Sweet Potato Casserole (before I melt the marshmallow), Green Bean Casserole and Squash Casserole and chocolate chip peanut butter cookies; my contribution to the meal today; ready to eat!!
Good Morning! What is everyone up to? Some of you have been up since before daybreak cooking, cleaning, mixing, chopping; all to make sure that those families of yours have a sumptuous meal. Me? Well, I get off somewhat easy this year as I’m only responsible for about 3 dishes and a dessert.
I just wanted to remind everyone of a few things as we busy ourselves in the kitchen and wish we had 30 minutes to do our makeup before everyone shows up. It’s worth it…..it really is.
My mom was the quintessential Susie home maker, her nickname of Susie was very fitting. She labored over the stove for days before and the day of Thanksgiving, but boy, did she put out a spread. My sis and I are still more than satisfying our families with those same recipes today.
My love for all things Thanksgiving, is largely due to the time and effort she put forth to make great holiday memories and for that I am very grateful.
For all of you who are already tired, your back aches, you wish you’d had another hour to sleep, your manicure is ruined and the hot flashes are rearing their ugly head about the same time you have to check something in the oven, Well, you rock! You are amazing and you are helping to make memories.
Let’s remember to thank those today who put so much effort into pleasing their families and even those who just keep a spot on the sofa warm. Let’s be thankful for families and friends and do our best today to share moments, not things.
And above all, love, love, love. We never know what tomorrow holds, but we can act today. We can make someone feel special and loved. Check on your neighbors, take someone a plate, invite a new guest who doesn’t have anyone.
Have a beautiful, blessed Thanksgiving!
So tonight as I sat here in my jammies, typing away at my computer, trying to learn how to import my old blog, add tags and install widgets, I heard a knock at my door. My first inclination was to ignore it. After all, I’m in my jammies! But the windows are open and I had heard the heels clicking up the sidewalk so I knew the visitor was a female. Well, whoever she was would just have to be greeted by a pajama wearing, naked faced, messy haired, me.
Let me tell you, I am so glad I opened that door. One of my dear friends from the East coast stood there looking like she stepped off a magazine cover. She apologized for dropping in on me unexpectedly, (because obviously I wasn’t expecting visitors) and I invited her in. We’ve seen each other sans makeup, so I was okay with all this.
We caught up for a bit and then I told her of my new blog and she said she could feel the excitement I had for this adventure! She began to encourage me about blogging, writing and even offered support since she knows this program so well as it’s all her company uses for publishing. She also offered some suggestions for my future book and is in a position where she can provide resources. My friends, this was a God thing. I just switched to this site today and it’s the one she knows like the back of her hand.
Three hours later, she got up to go and both of us feeling refreshed and encouraged in spirit, hugged our goodbyes. Tonight I am thankful for God’s providence and for the wonderful people He places in my life in His perfect timing. Sometimes an encouraging word is all that is needed to catapult us headlong into our dreams and goals. Be an encourager, always my friends- Good night, dream of turkey and dressing 😉

Got this on a recent boat ride with my hubby in the 10,000 Islands of Everglades National Park; there were 4 of them playing; so much fun to watch!
First of all, thank you so very much to all of you who have sent encouraging emails and comments regarding my latest endeavor. You are too kind!!
I can already tell I’m going to enjoy this as I was drawn to the computer on my lunch break. This may not be good for my waistline as I normally walk 2 miles on my lunch break. Well, this SW FL girl is cold as it has dipped down below the 70s. I needed soup and a blanket, not the wind whipping in my hair. Yesterday I had to walk a mile before I was able to remove my arms from around myself.
Everyone asks me why I walk every day. There are several reasons. The first one is that I work from home on a laptop all day long, so I need fresh air and at, let’s just say forty-something, my joints and bones need to move or they tend to get stiff on me. Secondly, its a good time to think, to contemplate my day, to pray and just enjoy the silence. Thirdly, it keeps my metabolism strong which is an absolute must at my age and helps keep the pounds off as well. I used to run. That was then, this is now. Running hurts now. It hurts my knees and my back and I’m going to just go ahead and believe an internet article I read which stated that walking is just as good for you anyway, without the joint damage. I highly recommend it to save your sanity and keep your girlish figure.
As usual, when I settle down to do something I love, the phone rings, the husband needs something and things get all chaotic and noisy. Since my lunch break is winding down and I must get those sweet potatoes in the oven so that I don’t end up peeling them while they are still hot like I did last year, I better run.
Peace and Blessings!
I’ve been contemplating starting a blog for a very long time. It’s been easy to put it off because I lead a busy life, but today I decided it’s now or never. Procrastination isn’t going to win this battle this time. The hardest part is deciding the “one” thing I’m most interested in, or what genre my blogging will represent. I can’t do that. So, I decided that this will be a mixture of interests, a conglomeration if you will.
Since this is my first ever entry, I will strive to keep it short and sweet and then let my eldest daughter know it’s done, so I can quickly obtain my first follower.
Something is changing and it isn’t just the weather. My interests are and somewhat dramatically at that! Whereas I used to loathe all things crafty, I found myself in Michael’s on Saturday searching for felt, buttons and ric rac. My mantra was always, “Why make it when you can buy it?” But now, laid out on my dining table in all it’s glory are the materials for my newest project; making these cute little felt owl ornaments I found on Pinterest.
Stroll a few feet further and you will find the kitchen. This used to be a place I barely tolerated. The greatest thing about it was that it housed my coffeepot and that of course is essential. Now, I have recipes galore, new ingredients in my pantry that I’ve only just learned existed and I have a desire for new cookware, bake-ware and am seriously contemplating buying one of those expensive mixers.
My hope is that this journey deep into the heart of middle age (or am I already there?) will prove enlightening at the very least. Hope you will join me!
